Guide

How to use the stock investment calculator

Enter the amount you would have invested, choose the currency you want to think in, select a stock or ETF, and choose the starting date. The tool uses the first available market close on or after that date and compares it with the latest available close.

If the stock quote currency is different from your selected currency, the result uses exchange-rate data at the purchase date and latest close date. The chart shows how the original investment value moved over time in the selected currency.

Checks

Before relying on the estimate

  • Check actual broker execution prices if you need an exact trade comparison.
  • Add fees, stamp duty, FX spreads, fund charges, and tax separately.
  • Use the adjusted estimate as a comparison, not a guaranteed total-return result.
  • Review capital gains tax separately if you are modelling a real disposal.

FAQs

Stock Investment Calculator FAQs

What does the stock investment calculator show?

It estimates what a past lump-sum investment in a selected stock or ETF would be worth using daily close prices, the latest available market close, and exchange-rate conversion where needed.

Does it include dividends?

The headline current value uses close prices. The adjusted estimate uses adjusted-close data where supplied, which can reflect dividends, splits, and distributions depending on the data provider.

Does it include tax or dealing costs?

No. Broker fees, platform charges, FX spreads, stamp duty, withholding tax, income tax, and capital gains tax are not included.

Can I use GBP, USD, or other currencies?

Yes. The input and result can be shown in supported main currencies. If the stock is quoted in another supported currency, the tool applies historical and latest exchange rates.
